Discount Calculator

Find the final price after applying a percentage discount.

About the Discount Calculator

Figuring out a sale price by hand is easy to get wrong, especially with stacked discounts or odd percentages. This calculator finds the exact final price after a percentage discount, along with the total amount saved.

It's useful for shopping, comparing deals, or checking a store's advertised discount against the price shown at checkout.

How to Use This Tool

  1. 1Enter the original price of the item.
  2. 2Enter the discount percentage being offered.
  3. 3The calculator shows the discount amount and the final price instantly.

How the discount is calculated

Discount amount = Original price × (Discount % ÷ 100). Final price = Original price − Discount amount.

For stacked discounts (e.g., 20% off, then an extra 10%), apply each discount to the result of the previous one rather than adding the percentages together — 20% + 10% is not the same as 30% off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 20% off plus 10% off the same as 30% off?

No. Stacked discounts apply sequentially, so the combined discount is actually less than the sum — for example, 20% off followed by 10% off equals a 28% total discount, not 30%.

Does this include sales tax?

No — this calculates the discount only. If tax applies, calculate it separately on the discounted price, since tax is typically charged after the discount is applied.
